The development of professional activities associated with the exercise of Veterinary Medicine requires the performance of certainly complex competencies, which the student begins to acquire through theoretical training but does not reach an acceptable degree except through the exercise of professional practice. Clinical practices make it easier for students to complete their training so that they are in a position to start their professional career with certain prospects of success in it.
Las asignaturas “Prácticas Clínicas” y «Rotatorios Clínicos optativos» se integran como materias en el bloque de “Prácticas tuteladas y Trabajo de Fin de Grado” del Título de Grado en Veterinaria por la ULPGC y viene a completar la formación práctica de carácter clínico del título. Las asignaturas se imparten en quinto curso ya que se requiere que el estudiante haya cursado todas las asignaturas básicas y fundamentales, así como la mayoría de las asignaturas clínicas para su mejor aprovechamiento.
It is intended that students develop, in person and under the direct supervision of clinical professors, the practical clinical competencies of the profession. With these internships developed within the Faculty, and more specifically, in the Veterinary Clinical Hospital, in the Pathological Anatomy Diagnostic Service and in the Infectious Diseases Diagnostic Service, the aim is to offer sufficient "HANDS-ON" clinical experience that guarantees the acquisition of the day one competencies established by the EAEVE and which will be subsequently reviewed in the Final Degree Project.
Both in the subject "Clinical Practices" and in both "Rotaries" the student must carry out practices in each of the following Blocks:
A.- ANIMAL MEDICINE AND SURGERY BLOCK (75 hours)
The student will go to the different clinical services of the Veterinary Clinical Hospital to complete rotations for all services.
The programming of these practices has been carried out in Academic, therefore the student must choose a group of practices in said application for the assignment of rotating dates.
B.- PATHOLOGICAL ANATOMY BLOCK (17 hours)
The student will go to practice at the Pathological Anatomy Diagnostic Service.
The programming of these practices has been carried out in Academic, therefore the student must choose a group of practices in said application for the assignment of rotating dates.
C.- ANIMAL HEALTH BLOCK (8 hours)
The student will go to carry out practices in the Animal Health Diagnostic Service.
The programming of these practices has been carried out in Academic, therefore the student must choose a group of practices in said application for the assignment of rotating dates.
Each student will be assigned 1 tutor for the preparation of a clinical case that they must present to their classmates. In the Virtual Campus you can find the assignment of tutors to each student and in Academic the presentation of clinical cases is planned and programmed.
BRIEFCASE.
- The student will take with him to the practices and rotations the Portfolio designed for the verification of the competences of day one and that he will have to present in the Final Degree Project. The teachers will sign the learning objective when the student considers that it is executed correctly and the teacher will issue a note that corresponds to the level of execution of said activity. The final grade will be an average of the competencies that are evaluated in the Clinical Practices subject in said document.
PRESENTATION OF CLINICAL CASES (ANIMAL MEDICINE AND SURGERY BLOCK)
- In the presentation of clinical cases of Medicine and Surgery, since there are several professors to evaluate said presentations, a rubric will be used in which they will assess the following sections:
- Organization, structure of the presentation of the clinical case (the presentation must follow the usual order of a clinical case; for example: MC, Hx, EF, LP, DD, PLAN, TTO, PRG).
- Oral expression of the student (use of correct scientific terminology
- Quality of the presentation (powerpoint design, use of images, etc.) problem on which the clinical case is based.
- Communicative capacity of the student, clarity in the exposition, pleasant presentation.
- Grammar and spelling of the presentation.
CLINICAL CASE (DOCUMENT)
- The student must deliver to the tutor a document (paper or pdf format) that must include an updated bibliographical review on the disease, diagnosis or problem that has been the subject of the presentation.
FINAL GRADE OF THE SUBJECT:
- The final grade of the course will be a weighting derived from the dedication of the student in the three parts of the course.
